Hi all,
I'd really appreciate your feedback on the relatively detailed itinerary I've laid out below. I'm trying to find a way to fit Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand into 5 weeks. I'm also meeting my boyfriend in Siem Reap to do the second half of the trip, so the timing is a bit of an issue!
I'd also love your feedback on a few key questions that will DEFINITELY help me plan my time:
1)What is the best way to get from:
-HCMC to Hoi An (and back)
-Siem Reap from Singapore
-Siem Reap from Phnom Penh
-Siem Reap to the Thai Islands ( Ko Tao /Ko Pha Ngan/Ko Samui)
2)Which are the best Thai islands to focus on in 1 week?
3) Any recommendations for accomodations on the Thai islands? (I'm dreaming of bungalows on the beach)

From HCMC to Hoi An the trip by train/bus can be long.. something like 20-24 hours. You may consider flying to Da Nang.
On your way to Ko Tao you may want to fly to Koh Samui instead of Phuket. You'll save yourself 6-8 hours if you're flying. Taking the train can be extremely long. Also keep in mind that the last ferries leave for the islands at about 2pm. If you arrive past this you'll be stuck overnight in a place with not much to do.

Thanks so much for the flight suggestions. I think we'll bite the bullet and do the pricey flight from Siem Reap to Samui. So much easier that way!
I've updated my itinerary below. Would someone mind commenting on my plans for Vietnam/Cambodia? Does this look like enough time to do everything or am I being too aggressive? Also, I'm a bit sad not to be able to fit in Northern Thailand (Chiang Mai). Think there any way I can make that happen?
