What is the best way to get from Ho Chi Minh to Laos air, train, bus? If by train or bus, how long does it take and approx cost. If by air can I wait until I get to Ho Chi Minh and find a domestic flight the last week of Dec. 2006.

Hey,
I want to do exactely the same thing, but unfortunately i haven't found out what the best options are. I'll keep you informed if and when I find some information. What time are you planning to go? I was thinking of leaving the 23rd of December.

Well, if depends on where in Laos you're trying to get to!
If you're heading to southern Laos then it is a simple loop through Cambodia for the overland crossing... but some info from the two of you and I'll try to give a bit more advice!

hey somtam2000,
In my case i was planning on heading to Vientiane, so northern Laos!
I checked out the direct flights with Vietnam Airlines, but that is $370 return flight, so that's a bit expensive for a student ;)
Any suggestions or should i just accept the fact that if i want to visit Laos during when living in Saigon that i'll have to spend some money on a ticket?

Hi Claire,
One option would be to travel overland from Saigon to Phnom Penh then pick up a Lao Aviation flight up to Vientiane -- that should be a bit cheaper.
