I'm going on a solo backpacking trip to South East Asia in January. I've booked flights and a few other things (marked with a . All other dates are just rough estimates really. But any input or suggestions would be great. Or if anyone wants to join me for any part of it - reply here!
Here's the itinerary so far...
Jan 17th – Flight - London to Kuala Lumpur (
MALAYSIA
18th – Get to know KL, maybe go to Penang ?
22nd – Thaipusam – Batu Caves
24th – Flight - KL to Hanoi (
VIETNAM
26th – Hanoi to Halong Bay
29th – Train to Hue
31st – Bus or train to Danang
Feb 2nd – Hoi An for Tet? (need to book tet stuff soon!)
6th – Hoi An to Bo/Y border crossing into Laos (Is this possible? do I need to go to Pleiku 1st)
LAOS
7th – Attapeu to Champasak
8th – 4000 Islands
CAMBODIA
14th – Bus over border to Stung Treng and later Kratie(Mountain Biking/Kayaking?)
18th – Kompong Cham and on to Phnomh Penh
196h - Siem Reap and Angkor
23rd – Back to Phnom Penh
24th – Flight - Phnom Penh to KL (
MALAYSIA
25th and 26th – Not Sure!
27th – Flight - KL to Yangon
BURMA
28th – Train to Mandalay (maybe)
March 3rd - Boat to Bagan?
6th – Bus to Kalaw
8th – Trek to Inle Lake?
13th – Back to Yangon
15th – Flight - Yangon to KL (
MALAYSIA
16th – Penang or Taman Negara NP? maybe?
22nd – Flight - KL to Kuching (
23rd - Kuching and surrounding areas
25th – Flight - Kuching to Mulu (
26th – Pinnacles Trek and Caves at Gunung Mulu NP (
29th – Flight - Mulu to Kuching (
30th – Bako NP, Beaches, other stuff?!
April 6th – Flight - Kuching to Kota Kinabalu (
7th – Flight - KK to Sandakan (
8th – Treks with Uncle Tan’s (
10th – Bus to Semporna
11th – Advanced Diver course with Scuba Junkies (
13th – Dives at Mabul and Sipadan (
16th – Flight - Tawau to KL (
17th – Flight - KL back to London (
18th – A nice cup of tea!


So yeah - worked a lot of it out as you can see. But Burma and Cambodia could be worked out a bit more. and if you can think of other places you like that I could go to, but aren't listed. Let me know. preferably less touristy - as a lot of these places aren't exactly "off the beaten track"!
