Last minute flight prices

I've been noticing that when I search for international flights between Malaysia/Thailand/Cambodia they are much cheaper if I schedule a last minute flight instead of more than a month out. Does anyone know if this is a common thing for flights in SE Asia or is this just some sort of fluke at the moment?

    Which airlines are you checking?
Look at http://www.airasiaplus.com/ for the cheapest base fares
    then book on http://www.airasia.com

Usually cheapest (Promo Fares) a month or so in advance.
