My boyfriend and I just booked tickets in and out of Bangkok for two weeks in late August. We are thinking of starting in Bangkok, then somehow seeing KL, Terengganu n Malaysia (my boyfriend lived there for a year) then going to Angkor Wat, and ending the trip with a few days on a beach around Cambodia/Thailand before heading back. Does anyone have recommendations on whether this is a good itinerary for the time of year, e.g. will we get hit by monsoons, is it easy to get around, are there any better spots to consider? Thanks so much in advance!!!!

Assuming that you intend to take flights all the way I guess it's alright.
Just think that Cambodian islands/beaches might not be handy and you would be better off on a Thai beach near Phuket because of flights. It would take you a full day travel to get to islands from Angkor. Better to fly to BKK and get a connecting flight to Phuket and pick an island/beach nearby. Also easier that way to get to BKK for your return flight.

Late August 2012! - 2 weeks - And you booked now with an unrealistic route plan... good luck with that -

So figure three days or so in Bangkok, fly to KL. An overnighter there, bus to Terengganu. Three or so nights there, bus to KL. Fly back to BKK and take a plane to Siem Reap. Three / four nights there, back to BKK. A couple of days at Hua Hin or Pattaya and you're done. Possible - not too relaxing, but possible.

Thanks for the advice! Very useful (except for yours altmtl haha
I know it's ambitious/exhausting so if you think we'll be miserable and have recommendations to shorten it that'd be helpful too! We haven't actually booked anything except to and from Bangkok so plenty of room to plan.

I just think flash packing is a silly way to travel, I usually stay in SEA 2-4 months at a time and relax while I'm there. Not run around trying to "see everything" - Just my opinion.

Oh yes ideally we'd do at least 2 months, but unfortunately due to our jobs we can only take two weeks off, and it's our only vacation all year so want to make it special

I'm curious as why you booked your flight so far in advance? I hope you have cancellation insurance?

altmtl, they don't need to cancel the flight. They're booked through to Bangkok and that's it. So they can adjust as they see fit. Two weeks is enough to chill in Bangkok.

And if you lose your jobs, then that would be a good thing right? Then you could go for two months -

I'm just teasing you

What's up with the negative vibes Moriarty? Can't you say something righteous and positive for a change.
