We are currently in Pai (hard to leave laid back Pai) does anyone know where we could go to get on a budget type sailing trip for a few days? We like to snorkel but we are not divers. We are more than willing to try any of the nearby countries, we just need an idea of where to start. We can't afford $1200.00 for a few days, we were hoping that something exists for a couple of hundred, maximum $300.00 for 3 days.
Hi,
I've done a trip in Indonesia from the Gilli islands to Flores, stopping at Komodo Island on the way (as in Komodo dragons). They are not sailing ships but local boats with engines. You sleep on the deck, there are no cabins. Toilet is a cabin, but just a seat suspended over the water. The showers are a swim in the sea & food is basic!!. They take groups of 10-15.
If you are still interested it is a fantastic trip for about 3 days and cost under 30US$. This was about 6 years ago and I've never seen it advertised. If you ask on the Indonesian forum someone may be able to tell you if it is still operating an at what cost.

Thanks Mikethediver, we really would really like to sail, you know feel the wind beneath our sails but thanks for the information. It might be worth heading over to Indonesia to see if we can find something. We have heard that the Similian Islands are very expensive and completely booked.
In Kep at the Sailing club they have hobycats for rent (at $25 per day i thought) and in Sihanoukville you have more options. In SHV you have a club on Otres where you can rent a sailing boat and there is also a big sailing boat that organises tours. Don't know the prices of that yacht but given the average clientele in SHV you might find a decent price for you there.

The boat from Lombok to Komodo is $150 for 3-4 days, it also only runs over high season i believe. We run trips from Gili (3 night and 5 night) but the boat is motor not sail. The website is www.southseanomads.com
