I am planning a 6-8 month trip to Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Indonesia/Bali. I want to see temples, landscapes and beaches just a laid back vacation. Any suggestions on which order to visit these countries in would be greatly appreciated. Any cities i should check out too feel free to list. thanks for the help

With the places you mentioned, I might fly into Bangkok and eventually fly out of Jakarta at the end of the 6-8 months. That way you could make a big loop through the mainland (Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, for example), then head down to Indonesia.
Another important consideration is weather. I'd definitely do a bit of research to see what the weather is like in each of the places you mentioned during the 6-8 months you'll be on the road. A bit of advance planning can make sure you are enjoying the best weather patterns during your trip.
Finally, I'd also want to work out a strategy on entry visas for each country. Most nationalities can still get a 30-day exemption when you arrive by air in Thailand, and you can get a 30-day visa on arrival in Laos and Cambodia, for example, but Vietnam requires a bit of advance planning.
Hope that helps. Cheers.

Thank you. I was thinking the same thing. Start the trip in Bangkok do the mainland loop. Still cant decide which way to go (head east towards Cambodia or go to North Thailand into Laos)
Is it expensive to fly within those countries? Say if i did a river tour In Laos and headed south went in to Cambodia would it be cheaper to fly up to Top of Vietnam then do that top to bottom. Or should i just go south to north. I think ill finish everything with Indonesia then Bali like you said. As for visas Ill get the one that will allow the most time in each country. dont mind spending a lil more for that instead of running into problems later. This is my first trip so any suggestions help. Thanks again

I'm planning a mainland Thai-Laos-Cambodia-Vietnam trip at the moment, leave in a couple weeks.

Decided to go clockwise, up to Chiang Mai, into Laos, doing the South of Laos which I think gets missed by many who just take the Vientiane - Hanoi route and never get there. I'm going from Vientiane to Thakhek and south from there into Cambodia, then in Vietnam traveling South to North. I think that would be a good option for you, then you could fly out of Hanoi to Jakarta
