Hi There,
Could anyone tell me what currency the global ATM's dispense in Vietnam and Cambodia? $US or the local currency.

Thanks,
Patrick

Hi AnotherPatrick,

Welcome to Travelfish!

It is my understanding that the ATMs in Vietnam give out Dong, while the Khmer ones handle US dollars, though there are apparently plans for them to issue Riel as well.

Note I've never used either, but the above was what a friend in Phnom Penh told me.

Hey Mate-

ATMs in Vietnam give you Dong. There are 'official' money changing offices in phnom phen and they give you money in USD or Riel. I'd say you will have an easier time using USD for the most part and keeping some local money around for 'spending money'. ****Just make sure you get rid of whatever Reil or Dong you don't want as a souvenier. It ain't worth a thing outside the respective countries. I know, I'm sitting on a wad of Dong!

I used $$ in Cambodia, no problem, just make sure you have new notes as they wont accept old ones and try to keep smaller denominations, no$100! you will be asking for trouble. you can withdraw USA cash at the local bank in PP. ATM's everywhere in Vietnam. they will also accept $$ in some places.
