Hi everyone,
I am planning a trip in Sth East Asia, July and August 2013, is that a good time to go, want to avoid the crowds and works for me re work.
Planning to buy motorbike in Hanoi and wondering if the time I have will be enough to do Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Thailand ending up in Phuket.
With limited time would you do the top end of Vietnam and jump across to Laos or is it worth checking out the Sth of Vietnam, where would you spend more time, Vietnam or Laos.
Is buying a motorbike the way to go?

Not enough time and you can't take the motorbike across all the borders you have mentioned. Might want to look at a plan B.

Certainly not enough time. You are planning on covering a huge amount of ground.

Which borders (or countries) out of those are tricky to get a motorbike into, MADMAC?

I wouldn't mind doing something similar one day down the track and I always find your posts around here quite informative

Between Laos, Vietnam, Thailand and Cambodia you can expect some difficulties. As I understand it, Vietnam to Cambodia is doable. Vietnam and Cambodia to Laos are more problematic. Coming into Thailand with Vietnamese plated motorbike is a no-go. But I suspect all these rules vary from border crossing site to border crossing site and you just can't be sure. Remmember, this is SEA we're talking here, not Europe. Rules are guidlines here, not rules.
