Itinerary please help
6th June, 2013
We are going to Bkk on 10.November We are having 26 days for our holiday.
Could you please help me to plan our vacation.
We will arrive in bkk on 11.11.
We would like to go :
Chiangmai 14-18.11(then is loy kratong)
Ho Chi Minh
That is the basic what we would like to visit.
The most important for us is to go in Chiangmai for Loy kratong then siem reap 3 full days min,we must go min 2 days in Kuala Lumpur to visit some friends and the end of our vacation on the islands.
Maybe is the best to fly from Saigon to Kuala Lumpur.
1.from Kuala Lumpur to Phuket what is the best way to travel overland and how many hours it takes?
2.from Chiangmai to siem reap overland is it possible to go but to avoid bkk?
3.because Loy kratong is from 14-17.11 and we are arriving in bkk 11.11 we have 3 days empty. Do you suggest maybe to go in Kanchanaburi or Ayuthaya? Is it possible to take night train from Kanchanaburi to Chiangmai??

The first three days in Bangkok you can do daytrips as mentioned, but I would suggest going to Kanchanburi for a night then bus to Ayutthaya then sleeper bus to Chiang Mai . Note that thousands of people come to CM for Loy Krathong and trains will be fully booked. Chiang Mai to Siem Reap without flying it's still easiest to go via Bangkok. Maybe take an overnight bus from CM which will arrive at Mo Chit station in Bangkok and then take the next bus to Aranya Prathet. Definitely fly HCMC-KL, otherwise it will be a lonnnngggg way overland. From KL forget Phuket and go to Krabi instead - quicker connection to Phi Phi from there. It's still a very long way (800km+) which will burn a full day or night, and the border is only open daytime, and you may need to change buses at Hat Yai. Again consider flying since your time is limited.

With 26 days I'd really think about getting a flight form CM to Siem Reap. That is two full days of travel. Also, are tickets prohibitively expensive from PP to KL? You could save yourself a hefty visa fee by avoiding HCMC, and if your schedule is just PP to HCMC via bus and a couple nights in HCMC, then I'd just skip it and spend more time in Cambodia, use those days down in Kampot or Sihanoukville.
