Any information on routes would be greatly appreciated! I'm looking at travelling from China all the way through to Bangkok over a period of roughly 4 months before heading out to Turkey after that. I'm an absolute first timer with this route, so first off, please forgive my ignorance...
Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance...

What are your likes and dislikes -- do you want nature, big cities, nightlife, culture, history, mountains, beaches?
Assuming you are flying into Beijing I'd recommend the highlights from Beijing to Xi'an, then for kicks you could work over to Sichuan for a couple weeks and work your way down through Yunnan and into Laos overland. That would be a very out of the way path to take --- otherwise, Beijing to Xi'an (& Huashan mountain), then back over to Shanghai-Suzhou-Hangzhou for the quintessential China scenes, next onward to Huangshan mountain and the old villages that are UNESCO sites. If you still have some time to beat in China head to the rice terraces and karst rock formations around Guilin & Yangshou. From there you could work down to Hong Kong or go via Guangxi province to northern Vietnam (you need to setup that visa in advance). From HK you can fly to any destination depending on how much time you have left. Maybe go to HCMC and work around southern Vietnam through Cambodia and overland to BKK (if you enter Thailand overland you only get two week visa).
If you have 1 month in China, end up in HK you could fly to Hanoi, take a month to work down Vietnam to HCMC and then take three weeks in Cambodia and head up through Laos from the south all the way to the north for three weeks. Enter Thailand overland via Huay Xia in the north of Laos and you can take the better part of two weeks to work through northern Thailand down to BKK. Route can depend a lot on time of year and weather.
What else . . . how about fly from HK to HCMC, then work your way a month up to Hanoi - then overland into norther Laos and work your way down to Cambodia thorugh Laos in a month. That gives you two weeks in Cambodia before overland around Trat and the Ko Chang island area for the better part of two weeks and then up to BKK for a couple days . . .
