hi guys,
can anyone help please? we are on a bit of a tight schedule, so were wondering about flying from chang mai to luang prabang (to save time on the 2 day boat). does anyone know if this can be done/ how much/ how often they go etc? or any other way of getting from north thailand to luang prabang reasonably quickly? i've heard a lot of bad things about lao airlines - has anyone flown recently or know if they are safe to fly with? any help would be appreciated - thanks!! x

Hi lizzyp83,
Funny you ask that -- we've just posted a story about that very question! You can read all about the question of flying with Lao Airlines here.

Hi Lizzy,
You may have already found the answers to this but I've been looking to do the exact same thing as we are on a tight schedule also. The Lao aviation flight is only bookable up to the 31st may at the moment on their website and the current timetable states it only flys on Tues/Fri/Sun from Chiang Mai to Luang Prabang so that may well decide whether it will fit in with your schedule as you may have to stay more or less nights in Chiang Mai as your are wanting to. Hope this helps.
