After reading and planning the beginning lag of my trip, I now wonder if I should travel to Siem Reap, then go west of Bangkok, down to a southern island and national park, and then....
go to northern Thailand to Chiang Mai and area
....or....
over to Vietnam.
I would have about nine days of travel for the last part of the trip.
Any suggestions/preferences?
Thanks!

karyn,
listen, i don't know you, but after five months of traveling in this area all i can say is: LESS IS MORE!! and i'm sure you will agree after being here for a few days. Don't rush it, nine days is not much and you will gain a lot more from spending it enjoying one area instead of cramming all that and not remembering it afterwards. Go to the islands of southern thailand OR the mountains and waterfalls of northern thailand OR Ankor Wat (it's huge!) in Siem Reap and see the craziness of nearby Phnom Penh... Or like you suggested, go just to Vietnam. In nine days you can see a large amount of the south. Ho Chi Minh City is enormous, the Mekong River Delta is amazing to see, Nha Trang has some beautiful diving, small fishing villages along the breathtaking coastline, like Dai Lanh are worth a visit...
okay, enough now. if you 'd like more commentary please feel free to email me! But keep the itinerary SIMPLE!!

Hi Mayasophie...
Thanks for responding. I am keeping the first bit simple...I am going to Angkok Wat, the beaches, the National Park, the west, each for 5-6 days, It is the last nine days that I am wondering about and totally agree that I want to keep it simple. Rereading my message, it does sound like I am doing all of that in nine days....YIKES is all I would say for trying that! Have you been to northern Thailand? If so, would you pick it or one part of Vietnam? Why? Thanks!

If you're willing to head into northern Thailand - consider the Soppong, Pai Mae Hong Son area - a great part of the country and well suited to a week of wandering around.

A week in Vietnam... hmmm... I'd spend it around either Hoi An, Da Nang and Hue or else in Hanoi and surrounds (Ha Long Bay, Sapa).
