Hi,
My husband and I are going on a round the world trip and are starting off in Asia. We hope to spend about 3 months in Bali, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam leaving the US March 1, 2009. Is it necessary to have hotels books in advance for every place we visit or can we find places to stay as we go?
It depends on what standard of accommodation you're looking for and how picky you are about the rooms... you'll not be travelling in peak season, so unless you have some specific needs, you shouldn't need to book too much in advance. Here's a story regarding the need for reservations.
