Hi, this is gonna be my first time backpacking,(im 18, going with my boyfriend) and this is the plan so far:
fly to bankok 9th nov, (stay for 4/5 days)
make our way to siem reap, (another 4/5 days in that area)
bus or boat to phnom penh, (another 5 days(?) )
go down to kep/kampot, and spend a night on ko tonsay island (3 days)
then make our way along the coast, cross over to vietnam, and towards ho chi minh for a few days, then get a flight from there to bagkok for our flight home (7th dec)
I know this is a very rough plan and as it is doesnt cover a month, but im allowing for spending more time in places if we like them, or finding random places along the way, and of course doing more research into other places of interest.
Is this too much to cover in a month? and also is it a good idea to book the flight from ho chi minh to bankok in advance? im worried about missing flights etc!
thanks:)

Hi Kiki,
That general trip plan looks fine to me -- five days in Phnom penh is a fair while -- most give it 2-3 ngihts, but if you've the time, for sure give it longer!
Are you planning on going to Phu Quoc Island ? off the Mekong Delta in Vietnam? That would fit well with the rest of your trip.
AirAsia -- it depends on the route. Where there is a lot of flights a day they tend to run late later in the day, but the early flights are fine. Again if you've the time you could fly back a day earlier, but otherwise what would the cross over time be for your flight home?

Thanks, Phu Quoc Island looks great, if i dont run out of money i will definitely go there!
Ive just realized my flight home is around 9am , so il definitely get back to bangkok the day before:)
Do people usually book air asia etc flights before going abroad? because i feel like if i book ho chi minh to bankok im tied to going there, and if i dont i have more freedom ,but then i dont want to panic and not be able to get back to bankok for my flight:S
i know im being awkward now, but what would you recommend?
cheers, Kiki

Thanks:)
Ive decided to squeeze Hanoi/ha long bay in as well, so my itinerary is getting more and more ambitious (and overplanned) does this sound doable?
bangkok 10th-13th
siem reap 13th-18th
phnom penh 18th-21st
ko tonsay 21st-23rd
chau doc 23rd-25th
saigon 25th-30th
hanoi 1st-3rd
ha long 3rd- 6th
fly to bangkok- 6th
fly home 7th
Its hectic but I really want to see all these things :S
cheers
Kiki

Why are you flying into Bangkok at all? Did you have to originate there in order to get into SEA? Siem Reap isn't close to BKK. I am assuming that you intend to fly between the long legs of this trip (like Saigon to Hanoi and BKK to Cambodia) because otherwise bus time is really going to eat into your trip.

Yeah, flights were nearly double the price to fly straight to cambodia so... I think im gonna slow it down a bit though, ive just arrived in Bangkok and theres no way ill be able to rush around in this heat!
