Thanks. I was kinda looking for how the locals would say it. I guess I shoulda specified that. I read somewhere that Vientiane is pronounced "weng chan". Is that right? What about the others?
Spelling these names phonetically doesn't always work. People will still pronounce them differently. And keep in mind that many places have names that have been bastardized, often by the French, English, Spanish, or whoever happened to have taken up residence and saw fit to change the names of villages, towns and cities, in order to make their pronunciation easier for themselves. Bangkok is a good example of this.

What is the proper pronounciation of the following:
Luang Prabang?
Vang Vieng?
Vietianne?
Siem Reap?
If anyone could spell it out for me phoenetically that would be great!

Ummm, here's one attempt:
Luang Prabang -- Loo-ang Pra-bang
Vang Vieng? -- Vang (like fang with a v) Vi-eng
Vientiane? - Vee-en-tee-en
Siem Reap? - See-em Ree-up
Valiant attempt? ;-)
