Hi,
I'm heading to Bali in August and wanting to climb Batur and explore the surrounding area. It sounds beautiful but the accommodation options sound a bit limited and very oriented towards those hiking the mountain. Does anyone have any recommendations for a place or a town that offers more than a place to sleep before the hike?
I'm interested in walking/biking around and checking out some coffee farms too. Any recommendations for the general region? Thanks a bunch!
Have you looked at the Gunung Batur section on Travelfish.org? There's a bunch of accommodation options mentioned there and also info on hiking to the peak. As far as I know you're not really permitted to hike it solo.

Go to local supermarket calls "Carefour" get a tent capacity of 4 only cost u $20,all set?Yes you are permitted to hike solo here just give the park ranger (actually there are no park ranger here just some punk trying to get your money for cigarette) money like RP20.000=$2 he'll let you do whatever you want. One thing that you must aware of is the spirit around the mountain it's very mystical,WooOOooo, don't bother bringing a compass because it wont work there.Have fun!
Ok - so now my previous post looks like I was either somewhat demented, or knocked back to many rums. It was a knee-jerk response to a spammer - but Somtam must have been up to it at the same time and deleted it, while my one got left behind.

Unfortunately, that's not really an option, unless they rent tents/bags/pads somewhere.
