Hi,
Is Ramadan a major problem for travel in Bali and Lombok? We are heading there shortly, coincident with the start of Ramadan and are worried about finding food and accommodation.
Any help much appreciated.
Thanks, Andy

In both cases, most Muslim owned restaurants will be closed during the day. In Bali this isn't a big deal as Muslim-owned joints don't make up the majority. Accommodation won't be shutting down.
Bear in mind Bali is very very busy at the moment -- July was their busiest month for tourist arrivals -- EVER! So, while Ramadan won't effect the availability of rooms, the number of tourists here may well!

The Jakarta hotel bombings didn't affect popularity then? Strange how when a bomb goes off in Bali it affects tourism in other places in Indonesia but that the reverse isn't true.
Lake Toba (which is a Christian area) on Sumatra for example saw a huge drop in the number of tourists going there for years after the Bali bombings.
During Ramadam air fares tend to be higher ... especially around Idul Fitr, because practically the whole of Indonesia is on the move visiting family for the end of Ramadam festivities. Domestic air fares can triple at that time.
