just a note to say i got a one month extension on my B211 visa in ambon the other day.
apparently, you can extend it up to 4 more times at 250,000.

Yes, but as long as your initial visa is not a visa on arrival.
then, it might vary greatly from an Immigration Office to an other - the laws are as you mentioned but I heard a few visa officials that wouldn't let go that easy..
