I'm planning to visit Thailand in December 2010 and want to spend a few days in Luang Prabang.
I've read that flights are relatively cheap but all the prices I've found so far are around $360.
Does that seem right? Thanks for any help.

Flights into Laos are not cheap. Only airlines from Bangkok to Luang Prabang are Bangkok Airways and Lao Airlines and December high season you're looking at about $300+ return airfare.

If you have enough time, go up to Chiang Mai in northern Thailand (cheap bus or sleeper train, also some cheap flights on Air Asia and Nok Air). Then take 5-7 or more days going through to Luang Prabang and Vientiane. Pop back into Thailand at Nong Khai and again cheap bus or sleeper train back to Bangkok. Going in/out of Laos overland is always a lot cheaper and is popular, but takes some time.

Exactly what Bob said --
While many flights in SE Asia are cheap due to budget airlines like AirAsia, the Bangkok -- Luang Prabang route is one of the exceptions.
Only 2 airlines fly this route -- Bangkok Airways and Lao Airlines. Lao Airlines is ALWAYS cheaper than Bangkok Airways. $360 USD sounds exactly right... I flew 1-way in February from Bangkok to Luang Prabang and it cost a bit under $200 USD.
If money is an issue, you could consider flying there and then traveling back overland so you can see some of the countryside. You can also reach Luang Prabang from Chiang Mai, Thailand, by a combination of buses/boats (cheaper, but slow).
