you certainly seem to be. according to the time stamps it has been less than two hours and you are panicking about not getting a response? what's up with that, butt?
where are you planning on going in thailand? are you expecting to visit both northern and southern laos? lots of folks do chiang mai first, and then cross the border into laos and drift south through luang prabang, vang vieng and vientianne. depending on how much time you have, you can then cross back into thailand at the friendship bridge and nong khai, or continue drifting south all the way to champassak, etc.
from there, you can either keep going south in cambodia (angkor wat being a popular destination), or cross back into thailand and back to bangers for your return flight home.
there really isn't an advantage to going north/south or south/north, as the transportation tends to head both ways (with the exception of a few lao airways flights). the decision to head north/south or south/north really depends more on where else you'll be going in thailand and cambodia, and from where your return flight back home departs. take care.

Yo Adrian,
Personally I'd do it North/South and spend the last part of the trip chilling out on Si Phan Don.
chill
