I'll be travelling from Vang Vieng to Huay Xai (where the Gibbon check in place is) and would like to avoid the 2 day slow boat and instead take a bus there. Is this an option? Does anyone know how long it takes and whether it's an overnight journey- meaning would we get there the same day or the following day?
ALSO, after the Gibbon I need to get from Huay Xai to Luang Prabang and once again would like to travel by bus. Is this an overnight journey/would we arrive on the same day we leave?
Are there regular buses travelling between these places?
PLEASE HELP

Although it's maybe possible to catch a bus in VV that starts in Vientiane and is headed to Huay Xai , the distance and road conditions make it much better to break the journey into 2 sections - VV to LP (7 hrs by bus)& LP to Huay Xai (12 hrs by bus). There was massive road construction around Oudom Xai and the Boten junction 3 months ago and it must still be ongoing. Remember the upsteream slow boat from LP to Huay Xai is entirely different than the downstream trip. Upstream is relaxed, uncrowded and has a nice mix of locals. Downstream is packed with smelly falang. The road option might be better on your return trip.

So is it possible to go from Vang Vieng to Huay Xai in the one day? And how about Huay Xai to Luang Prabang?
