Good luck. I have only been able to get about 1/8 of the hotels in Luang Prabang to answer my e-mails. And most of those were out of our price range. I e-mailed from this site and to all of the address listed in Lonely Planet. In some case, I e-mailed upto 4 times. I didn't have much luck when I tryed calling either. Saynamkhane Guest House e-mailed me back with in 36 hours every time I e-mailed with a question. I was told the price $25 a night, which is more than we were wanting to spend, but we want a hotel before we get there. There is still some confusion as to what dates we want to stay and the dates they think we are staying(we are taking an overnight hiking tour, so we want to stay, leave, and come back). But after 5 e-mails back and forth, we decided we will just work it out once we are there. I haven't stayed there yet, so can't say if it's good or not.
I hate doing this when I’m trying to book a hotel because I don’t want them to be holding a room while they are waiting to hear back from me. But I would suggest e-mail a couple at a time, because you aren’t going to answers back from many of them.

We've checked with Thong Bay and they've changed their email address from the one we had on the form. Their "new" email address is: layinthavong@hotmail.com so I'd suggest you give that a try.
As per iwillfly525's experiences, the guesthouses can be very lax about answering emails, and if you do manage to wangle a reservation, getting there early is also a good idea to give them less of a chance to dishonour the reservation.

Hi BUCKSBLOKE35,
we want to book our accomodation by e-mail too. I got some replies but the rooms are not available for our travel dates. But I heard, there is no possibility to pay for booking online. For this reason some tourists booked rooms but they don't come really. So they don't want to reserve a room for online booking without paying....Generally lao people cheque their e-mail box only once per month or week.
For me, we will be flexible and look for free rooms if we will be there...I think you have to be very flexible if you are in Laos.
Here is a good link for hotels in Laos to have the first impressions of lao accomodation (www.laos-hotel-link.com)
Good luck.
