Visas for Laos

Does anyone know if it's possible to get a 30 day visa for Laos from Northern Thailand - seems 14 day is standard but not sure whether to risk turning up at the border.
    Many thanks

    My Queen,

When we visited Laos last summer we received 30 days visas on arrival. This seems to be the standard now even though the Lao MFA website still mentions the former 15 day visa on arrival. How long did you plan to stay in Laos?

I noticed that Somtam mentioned that 30 days is now standard. Is that what everyone else is getting too?

    G'Day Guys,
Just received a posting to say that VISA'S to Laos are no longer available at the border crossing at HouiSay.
DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY INFO ON THIS???
