Hi,
I'm planning a trip to Laos next March and I'm reading lots of travel journals. I read different comments on Muang Ngoi and Nong Khiaw. Of these 2, what is the nicest place to stay? Anybody been in both of them?
Thanks,
Johan

My vote is for Muang Ngoi as it is a little smaller -- but they're both fine locations, and chances are you'll really enjoy whichever one you pick.

Johan,
I'd go for Nong Ngoi too. No traffic- cheap accom & food in pole position on the riverbank. We stayed at Saylom GH at top of boat landing steps, $6 cold water only (see TF review) but be quick when the boat comes in. Make sure you are cashed up with kip before you arrive- don't remember any formal money changing there.
Nong Khiaw also good- more trekking options.
