Doesn't anybody know of any restaurants and/or guesthouses offering free wifi in Vientiane?
Or what about paid wifi?
There were none (that I noticed) when I was there in 2009.

Joma has great coffee & baked goods & free Wifi. it's on the main street that runs parallel to the river, ( not on the river, the next one up) just near the big fountain (that's never running)

Many cafes/restaurants and hotels in Vientiane have secure wifi, but it isn't usually "free". You have to be a paying customer in most cases, then get the password.

Lots -- JoMa, Scandinavian Bakery, Dao Fa Bistro, Sticky Fingers, Full Moon Cafe, Spirit House, Xayoh, Khop Chai Deua, True Coffee, Croissant d'Or...
As Bob said, most are secured so you need to buy something and they'll give you the password.
Many guesthouses/budget hotels also have free WiFi now. I stayed at the Lao Silk Hotel and the WiFi worked great, then at the Lao Youth Inn where it didn't. If it's important to have WiFi, confirm with the staff that it works before you accept the room.

Thanks for your replies. Actually I had forgot about Joma and True which were there, but I think at that time you had to pay extra for wifi.
Anyway, that is good news that it is free and more widespread now.
Any other guesthouses people could recommend that have free wifi?
I'll check the listing for the Lao Silk Hotel.
Thanks again.

You pay at True Coffee, but not at Joma.

I stayed at RD Guesthouse and they have wifi there.
Another place I forgot about that has it is Blue Bananas.
I've never really liked Joma. It's pretty over-rated in my opinion. But, yeah, they do have wifi...

Not the fastest connection but you can't beat the views here. In theory you could read the signs behind the bar and not buy a drink...

There were plenty when I was there late 2011 / early 2012, I really relied on it though so I always went one further than simply asking about it when I checked in - I'd grab the password and check Google was reachable on my phone.
Often the Wifi DIDN'T work (not so much Vientiane, just in general) and I'd wander off to find somewhere else (or the owner would know a neighbours password once I was leaving!)
