Let me know if i have calculated the cost wrong.should i include vietiane/tha khaek.i guess luang nam tha would be pretty similar to phongsali so i skipped it.
highlights which i feel:
1)easy paced trip
2)bit easy on pocket too without comprimising on food/drink.
3)village stay in phongsali with akha tribe
4)cruise in nam ou
5)trek to hmong tribe in Muang Ngoi Neua
6)no VANG VIENG:)
to be missed:
southern loas,kong lor caves,plain of jar,vientiane

Hi,
I have been in Northern Laos this February. I can recommend the Muang Ngoi. Nice setting, great views from the guesthouses facing the river. Villages when you can trek alone are within 40 min or 1,5 h. You need to make a decision at the crossroad.
We did very nice trekking to Akha and Thai Dam villages from Muang Khua . Ask for guide named KEO from Tourist Office. Young chap with decent English, we enjoyed trekking with him very much.
The cost calculation looks reasonable although I have not been in Phongsali. We paid 7 USD in Muang Khua (Nam Ou guesthouse) and ca 10 USD in Muang Ngoi.
