i'm currently in Luang Prabang, Laos (friday July 1st), been here several days, and heading towards the south to Vang Vieng and Tham Kong Lo cave eventually...
now i'm hearing mixed reviews since there has been excessive rains and massive flooding. what is the situation in vang vieng as of now, supposely most of the bars have been wiped out, and tubing has been closed off, but been speaking to people who have said, it's both open and closed, so if there's anyone there as of now, any idea of what's going on...
also be heading more down south after vang vieng, hoping to visit the kong lo cave, so wondering if anyone knows what the situation is there as well, if it's open and close, or depending on the weather situation of the day... since i hear it's not one to miss out on
so looking for opinions if any of you are they or have been there recently yourself...
thanks

If you are in Luang Prabang then why don't you just ask a tourist who's just come from Vang Vieng what the current situation there is like?

Hi,
Bars get washed away on a regular basis, and then just as quickly rebuilt a few days later as soon as the waters drop a little. This happens every year.
However, people have died tubing in Vang Vieng. Whether it is 'open' or 'closed' is not the issue - the people who operate it want it open to make their income, your safety is not their priority. So use your own judgement as to whether it is safe.
Without wishing to sound a harbinger of doom, as it happens, the above comment is true for any activity in Asia be it traveling by air, road or sea or participating in any outdoor activity. Use your own judgement at the time, not the operators!!!

Hi all - we are also currently in Luang Prabang and have heard mixed rumors about tubing being shut down in Vang Vieng . We can't get a straight answer from anyone here (everyone we've met came from Chiang Mai like we did) but we know that the weather has been clear for the last couple days. If tubing isn't going on we'd like to bypass the trip. Anyone in Vang Vieng and can give us the 411?
