Hi!
Just read about the Elephant Conservation Centre at Sayaboury http://www.elephantconservationcenter.com/ and am considering devoting 6 of my 16 to 18 days in Northern Laos volunteering there as the hype on the website makes it sound like a spectacular (to me, anyway) lifetime experience.
If you've been there yourself or know someone who has, I'd appreciate knowing what your impressions are. Would you say the 2 day trip might be enough all things considered, including the limited time I have in the country? Depending on your input I'll be planning the rest of my itinerary around the amount of time I think I should spend at the Conservation Centre.
I'm also wondering whether it might be cheaper to book the whole thing from LP instead of online.
Many thanks!

Hi 1411,
I've spent a week in Jan. 2012 at the Center and it was a wonderful experience. There were other "day travelers" but I was the only volunteer. I can definitely recommend it and would sign up through their website. Carolie is the manager, or one of them, and she is usually pretty quick in answering. She has, however, had problems at times to access email.
The location is so beautiful, right by the lake, the staff is wonderful and as a volunteer you get to have dinner with them rather than at the restaurant, which is great as you will get to know them. At least for me it was great as it is important to me that I also get to know the local people.
Hope that helps, and if you go, enjoy
