Hello,
I'm looking for a few more people interested in hiring one of the nicer slow boats from Thailand to Luang Prabang. My fiance and I would like to take the nicer boat. I've contacted the folks at Nagi of Mekong, and he says he needs a minimum or four people to run the cruise. I would like to depart on June 24th. Should be around $150 US per person and includes accomodations in Pakbeng.

Any takers?
Any body know any other mid range options besides the cattle-herder from Thailand to LP?
Thanks
Tyler

There are other boats but much they're a lot more expensive I think... and I haven't noticed any rave reviews about them on here (not that I see every post).
I wouldn't worry too much. You're not going for another 6 weeks and a lot of people work out their itinerary as they travel in SE Asia because it's so easy to do (and so hard to decide in advance how long you'll feel like staying anywhere before you get there!)
No guarantees but I think it's pretty likely that at least one other couple will want to travel the same days you do. I'd tell Asisak that you're up for that date and ask him to keep in contact. At worst you've always got the cattle-herder option. If you do have to get that then you could always try to book the same hotel as the Nagi of Mekong uses or the Monsavanh GH (recommended in post #4 of this thread by Wanderingcat, who knows Laos very well).

Is there usually enough people for the Nagi boat to go in late June or can it be a problem? Me and my kids are planning to go a few days later.

I'll take the one on the 22nd of June. If you go then, there'll be enough people I guess. Though I didn't hear about this one not running because of few people, so I think there's enough already.

Next time you can plan to travel with shompoocruise. They have an office in Luang Prabang. It is also a joining cruise like LuangSay but much more cheaper. Nice boats and good english speaking guide on board.
Accomodation is not included. it means you will have the choice to book your overnight where you want. That is a plus.
