So I'm currently in Hanoi, Vietnam, heading to Laos in the next couple of days, I've just been informed its a 28hour bus ride from city to city, which seems a little long for me! I'm probably going to stop off in Pu Luong (I think) National Park on the Vietnam side, but it's still a bit of a hefty journey to LP.
Looking for any suggestions on towns/national parks I can stop at en route to LP to break up the journey a bit. Time is not an issue for me, however money is (hence why I'm not flying), so no where that's going to be too pricey, also I am travelling alone so would like some places where it wouldn't be too difficult to meet people.
Any help/suggestions you guys can give would be much appreciated. Thanks!!

Do you know which route the bus is taking? There are a couple of different routes they take, but once in Laos Sam Neua and the caves at Vieng Xai are well worth a look.
