We've just added a book review for Rough Guide's Laos 3rd. If you're planning on going to Laos and are still looking for a guide, you may find the review of interest. Our verdict? Wait for the new Lonely Planet.
You can read the full review of Laos 3 here.

I bought the Rough Guide a couple of months ago and agree with your review... I loved the information sections at the front and back of the book, however the accommodation/transport/dining guides left me a little bored, confused and none the wiser!
Does anyone know when the new Lonely Planet guide is due out?

Hi Emjay,
I've got a review copy of the new Lonely Planet for Laos in my hot little hands, and it is good - very good - and certainly worth picking up. We should have a review online next week for it, and I think it's in bookstores in late August.

It appears that the new LP for Laos is already available to order direct from LP using their online shop (at least in the UK) - mine arrived yesterday! The official release date is the 24th August 2007. Cheers.

It's good, very good - a significant improvement on the last LP and probably the best of the 3 Laos guides that are on my bookshelf! Worth buying for sure... Just need to sort out another trip now!
Cheers
Mark.

I would have to agree the the rough guide is not very up to date and the lonely planet guide is much better and has more up to date material in it, better maps, if you are going to buy a loas guide book go for the lonely planet, callao
