Does anyone know anything about travelling from Phongsali to Lunag Nam Tha? will I need to go via Udomxai or is there an alternative?

most direct route is 1.5 days via Udomxai. if you really must not set foot in Udomxai, there is a roundabout approx 6-day route (down the Nam Ou river to Luang Prabang then up the Mekong to Huay Xai & then road to LNT)! also read on GT Rider forum about some who did an alternative dirt road/track route between somewhere along the LNT-Udomxai highway & Ban Boun Tai (doesn't pass through Udomxai at all), staying in village(s) along the way.

there is only one bus/day from Phongsali to Udomxai and depart time is around 08.00 am and spent around 8 hour. to reach Udonxai from Udomxai to LNT spent around 5 hour. and more bus
