So the Julie Guesthouse in Chiang Mai does a package where they take you to Chiang Khong (bordertown) to spend the night. In the morning, you cross into Laos for the slow boat from Huay Xai to Luang Prabang. If the border opens at 8:00 am (is that right?), what time does the boat leave? Is there enough time to cross over, do all the paperwork, etc? I don't want to miss the boat!

Don't worry, the boat only leaves when it's full ...VERY full. You'll no doubt be hanging around for an hour or two waiting for it to be more full than you'd ever think possible... ;-)

Why go thru all the drama/brain damage. Book the whole experience w/Asian Oasis--no need for cushions, no need to worry about electricity, no crouded boats or siting with the engine or anything else. Asian Oasis takes care of all of the trip including your visa to Laos. The cost is very reasonable.
