It is just as Tilapia says. Check with your hotel or guest house for details of the bus that runs several times each day from the morning market in VTE across the Friendship Bridge and into Nong Khai and/or Udorn. It is relatively inexpensive and quite comfortable.
You can also make your own way from VTE to the Friendship Bridge by bus or taxi/tuk tuk and then take the bus across. That isn't as convenient, but it is more of an adventure.
Is that what you meant, or are you planning to travel from VTE to some other spot in Thailand? Cheers.
Steffan,
Just take a tuk tuk from Vientaine to the Friendship Bridge and cross through immigration to the Thai side. There are mini buses, and taxis waiting and it is very easy to get to Nong Khai or to Udon Thani. This is a much more comfortable way than taking the bus from Talat Sao, which can be very crowded - often you don't even get a seat.

I was just wondering if anyone had done a route from Vientianne to Thailand, and if so, what did you do?

The International bus which leaves from Talat Sao and goes to Udon is very comfortable.
