Are there currently any regular or irregular flights between Vientiane and Sam Neua? According to the website Lao Airlines do not any longer offer this service. Does anyone know of any other air service to this region?

No -- if Lao Airlines isn't flying the route anymore then overland is the only means to get there.

Lao Air (not Lao Airlines) flies to Sam Neua a few times a week, they won't have any information on the internet, you'll have to get your ticket from a local travel agent when you arrive in Vientiane

Lao Capricorn Air (Ph# 21 513000, 20 4488771) has daily scheduled flights from VTE to Xam Neua M - F and two flights on Saturday. The one airplane used for this route is currently (late May 2010) out of order and pilots do not expect to resume flying until Early June 2010.

It is a long ride from phonsavan, but it is spectacular. That part of the country has some great scenery. Be sure to take some snacks with you!
