I am planning a trip in December to either Laos or Cambodia. We will be leaving from Beijing and need to end our trip in Saigon. We were hoping to do both but in the interest of time and money I think we're going to have to choose between either Laos or Cambodia.
We will have abot 2-3 weeks for travel and are looking for cultural experience and adventure. Any suggestions would help as we are completely torn between the 2.

It's a hard call. Cambodia is the country that best lends itself to a short visit (to catch the highlights) while Laos is considerably more time-consuming to explore. What about doing Cambodia and just southern Laos?
If you're starting in Saigon, you could do something like the following:
Overland/boat trip from Saigon/Mekong Delta to Phnom Penh then north through Kratie and Stung Treng to Ban Lung then back-track to the border, cross into Laos and kick around in southern Laos for say ten days (that would allow you enough time to see Thousand Islands, Pakse, Tak Lo and maybe somewhere else), then fly from Pakse to Siem Reap, see Angkor, boat across to Battambang, back to Phnom Penh and return to Saigon...

I'm trying to make the same decision - PP and S'ville in Cambodia or VV and Vientiene in Laos........impossible decision!!
