I am looking for accomodation during the Laos new year. Is being on the river a bonus? I tried booking Sala Prabang but it was full. Any recommendations for this time.
Pimai Lao is always a bit of a tricky timeto get accommodation in Luang Prabang. While overlooking one of the rivers is a bonus, it is hardly essential and as the main parades don't go by the river, it matters even less.
The best advice is to email a few other places and see how you go, but you'll find that most of the places that take reservation by email will already be pretty full in Luang Prabang for Pimai.
There are however dozens of other places to choose from, so perhaps try to get there a few days early so you have time to find a room.
Places worth trying (by email) include:
Sokxai
Senesouk
Sok Dee
For online reservations, you could try through our Online partners at Precision Reservations, or Hostel World has this listing -- I'm not familiar with the place they have listed, but they may be worth a try.

Thanks for the advise. What street are the main parades on and what days are they on?

The festival runs from 13 to 15 April. From memory, the main parade runs down Sisavanvong Rd.
