Hi all,
I was wondering if it's possible to fly from Vientiane to Luang Prabang.
It seems like the bus takes the whole day and is unreliable and I only have just over a week in Laos, want to spend most (or all) of that time in and around Luang Prabang.
I'll be arriving from Kuala Lumpur. If I can't fly from Vientiane to Luang Prabang, would it be best to fly from KL to Bangkok and then catch a flight from there to LP?

Hi,

Lao Airlines fly from Vientiane to Luang Prabang... check out http://www.laoairlines.com/ for booking details. The time table button doesn't seem to work for me, but if you try and book flights for the right day it brings up the relevant timetable.

Thanks for that.
I hadn't noticed the "domestic" tab on the lao airlines website and had the impression they only had international flights. Doh!
Anyhow I just had a go and tried every darned button and date combination possible and am having no luck with their website at all.
What to do?
What are the chances of getting a flight when I arrive?
And is it more expensive than booking thru the website?

Hi, Kangourousee,
DEpending on the time of the year, you should be able to get a flight to LP when you arrive at VTE if you are not in a great hurry. I managed to get a flight on the same day I arrived VTE twice but the 3rd time on 27 Sept we were not so lucky as there were 5 of us. So we took the 8pm VIP bus costing 135ooo kips arriving at about 6am the next morning. The ride was comfortable by Laos standard as I have experienced 10 times worst.
Internal flights are cheaper to book before you arrive.
