How and what is the best route to take from vang vieng to cambodia through the four thousand islands??

Assuming you don't want to stop along the way, would recommend bus to Vientiane then the overnight express bus to Pakse. Once there it's a straightforward songtheaw trip south to 4,000 islands.

Take a look in the suggested itineraries for Laos section -- they point out some of the better spots to see and also cover transport etc.
