Hi,
I am a bit confused about the above bus routes. I have read some posts (from all Forums) that there are busses between the towns, but when looking at the Phonosavan Travel - pages here, I cannot find any info for Phonosavan - Luang Prabang busses. Are there or are there not busses running between these towns?
Is the Vientiane - Phososavan bus a direct bus, or do we need to go via Vang Vieng and change or stop
there?
Also I would like to know a time table for these routes if possible.
I would appreciate any information
Thank you.
PS. I have also posted a similar question to TT (and earlier to TA) but have not yet received a good answer. Perhaps my question is not a good one! :-)

Hi,
I am answering to my own questions, as I have now gathered information from other forums.
So far as I can can understand the VIP bus drives directly from VTE - Xieng Khouang (Phonosavan). The local bus goes through Vang Vieng. It is 380/400 km journey and takes about 10 hours. VIP bus leaves VTE Northern Bus Station at 7.30 am and costs 130.000 KIP.
Local bus leaves at 6.30 am and costs 100.000 KIP, a/c bus 120.000 KIP.
XK (Phonosavan) - Luang Prabang bus leaves at 8.30, takes about 8 hrs and costs 85.000 KIP. It is a local bus.
If my info is wrong, please correct and update.

Hi rambler,
Sorry missed your earlier question!
Both the VIP and local Vientiane to Phonsavan buses pass through Vang Vieng, but there's no need to change buses.
10 hours sounds about right, but bear in mind Lao bus timetables are estimates.
From our VTE transport page:
"Four buses leave daily for the 10-hour trip to Phonsavan , but only the 7:30 and 19:00 have air-con and cost 100,000 kip. Regular buses to both destinations take about 10 to 11 hours but VIP buses are about two hours faster."
For LP to Phonsavan transport we've got the following:
Xieng Khuang/Phonsavn (local): departs at 08:30, costing 100,000 kip and taking 10 hours.
Xieng Khuang/Phonsavn (VIP): departs at 08:30, costing 115,000 kip and taking 8 hours.
The difference in price isn't substantial, and the trip length is about right, so I'd say you're on the right track.

see the link to VTE northern bus station here:
http://laomeow.blogspot.com/2008/07/bussongthaew-schedulesdetails.html
VTE-Xieng Khouang
ordinary buses 100,000kip: 6:30AM, 9:30AM, 4:00PM
AC buses 120,000kip: 7:30AM, 7:00PM
VIP bus 130,000kip: 8:00PM
for (non-VIP) AC, sometimes the driver turns it on only from about noon onwards.
