Thank you for your replies. I will be starting my trip to Vietnam in HCM city and then heading north to Hanoi. When in Hanoi, I want to fly to Luang Prabang in Laos. Once in Luang Prabang can I fly to HCM city for my return flight home or do I need to purchase a round trip ticket back to Hanoi, and then fly to HCM city from Hanoi?
There's no direct flights from Luang Prabang to Saigon to my knowledge -- so back via Hanoi would be the logical route. You could go via Bangkok instead, but I'm not sure if that would save you any money. Chcek budget carriers like AirAsia and Jetstar to see what you can find route wise.

Hello There. Does anyone know if you can take a boat from Hanoi, Vietnam to Luang Prabang, Laos. Or is it better to fly?
Thank you kindly

No boats.
Fly or overland by bus -- latter takes two days best case, so if you're in a hurry, as somsai says, fly.

One other note Somtam, If I flew back via Bangkok, wouldn't I have to get a another Visa for Thailand?

Assuming you'd be in Thailand for less than 15 days, no you wouldn't need a new visa.
