Hi all,
I was hoping someone could give me a good idea of what type of weather I should expect in Laos over the next two weeks or so. I am about to leave for a two week trip to Laos and am a bit concerned about what to pack to keep warm/stay cool.
I've looked at weather reports and it seems that it will be upwards of 80 degrees Fahrenheit and as low as the 40s in Luang Prabang?
Can this be true? Those are pretty drastic differences. I am planning on starting in LP and making my way down to Vientiane.
Any advice on packing would be great. Thanks.

Luang Prabang will be cool in the evenings, but other than that you'll be looking at pretty temperate temperatures all round -- I wouldn't bother packing the winter woolies.

I'm in LP right now. It can be pretty warm during the day, but I've been here for several days and we've been quite cold in the morning and evenings. Definitely don't only pack shorts! And bring a hoodie. You can tell all the people that didn't, they've got their "Laos" logo hoodies from the market!

I'm glad I read this post, packing now as we are leaving tomorrow, and i had nothing packed that was warm (as in a hoodie, i've got the pants in). Wondering though...is there much in vientiane for women in the way of warmth. I'm a size 14 - usually i dont get mucht o fit me in south east asia in the tops. Hmm...would love to know as i dont have any small rolling hoodies :) thanks!

those for whom northern Laos is much more than just Luang Prabang: night time temperatures can drop to single digit degree Celsius & even freezing in Houa Phanh & Phongsaly provinces.
