hi there
answers to the following questions would be appeaciated:
1. What is a realistic time to allow for this trip assuming no stops for sight seeing
2. Are there any regular buses that ply this route - can i buy one ticket and/or travel on one bus for the entire trip?
3. What are the options for this trip?
Thanks in advance

1) 1.5 to 2 days.
2) Yes
3) See the visa and border crossings FAQ -- there's a bunch of reports in there, along with a map showing where the various crossing are. In summary, if you've got the time, you're better off breaking up the trip -- say at Phonsavan or Sam Neua for example.

The actual travel time depends on the route you take.
Unless you go with a private tour (expensive) that takes tourists between the two locations (eg. greentrail-indochina.com), you will need to change buses
I personally doubt you'd get to HaNoi from Luang Prabang via an overland route in less than 2 days. In theory it sounds fine, but bus operators have a habit of not adhering to timetables.
cheers
