Hello there - Iam going to Laos in beginning of Sept and was wondering if you could suggest an itinerary of sorts to me for 10/11 days.
We are going to Chang Mai and were planning on going North crossing the border at Huay Xai to the Gibbon experience, go down by boat to Luang Prabang from there and also hoping to fit in Vang Viene and Vientiane as well! The more I read the more impossible to fit all this in it sounds!! Esp the 2 day boat trip down doesnt sound that appealing! Think we would be rushing things a lot and travel up North to Gibbon exp. seems quite a mission and unreliable for the short time we have?
So, was thinking alternatively - about flying direct to Luang Prabang go up to Muang Noi for a look, back to Luang Prabang(?) and then down (not too sure how?) to Vang Vien and then on to Vientiane where we will fly to Siem Reap.
Is this a better idea? Hows the best way to do it? Just want to make sure we see as much as possible without stressing ourselves out to get to all the places or spend all the time travelling and not enjoying!! Bit gutted we wont have time to see the Gibbon experience....so if we can fit in that would be ace or if you think that we could do it in that time and miss something else out i.e Vang Vien maybe??
Any other suggestions of places/ways to do it? Feeling quite overwhelmed with all the possibilities!! Thanks so much, hope this all makes sense - awesome website by the way!
First, don't forget to take a look in our Trip Planner section, as there's a couple of suggested Laos itineraries in there.
With 10-11 days you'd have enough time to go:
Huay Xai to Gibbon Exp,back to Huay Xai
Boat down to Luang Prabang
Bus to Vang Vieng
Bus to Vientiane and out.
It's probably a little ruched, but many people do what you're planning in as little as 7 days, so in comparison you've got stacks of time.
Personally, if I had to choose between the Gibbon Exp and Vang Vieng, I'd skip Vang Vieng.

Thanks for your feedback Somtam! Really appreciate it.
Think we will defo try get to Gibbon Experience then and maybe not spend so much time in Vang Vieng.
Thanks again. :)
