Both All Lao Elephant Camp and Tiger Trail are the 'big' operators in Luang Prabang for elephant treks or mahout courses. I know that for All Lao, that you'd have to join a group but they offer mulitiple times per day daily since there are 2 persons per 'howdah'. If you visit Tad Sae Waterfall, there's a place for half hour elephant rides (though not all year) and it's best to book directly since some travel agencies in LP charge more and sell you the same ride at inflated prices.

Almost all tours say min. 2 persons.....
If someone wants to do it alone can they? will they just trow into a group of others?

You'll most likely be thrown in with a larger group. If you'd prefer to do it solo, I'd expect you'll need to pay a single supplement.
