Ideally want to fly from LP - CM on Sat 9 Jan. 2010. Lao Airlines show flight available & looks like I can book. However Trailfinders UK (who booked my international flights) say that their system shows flights on 8th & 10th only, not the 9th. Anyone advise ? Thanks

I wouldn't place faith in the Lao website.
Kayak, Expedia, etc. say that the only way to get from LP to CM on 9 Jan is via Vientiane.
Maybe you can email them:

Thanks Bruce. Quickly checked Expedia site - worryingly no direct flights between LP & CM show for that whole week ! Will try emailing Lao Airlines website as you suggest.

They've cut some flights. Perhaps if things pick up again during the next peak season at year end some of the cuts might be restored? See here:

Thanks for link wanderingcat - certainly helps to explain things. Now considering the two flights to CM via Bangkok using Bangkok Airways - several hours longer but might be the more reliable option if Lao Airlines continue to review / cut services

I'd book with what is most convenient, if that makes you comfortable now.
In SE Asia, nothing is really certain. Just because you book doesn't mean they'll necessarily deliver.
Seriously, be mindful that things do go awry, and you'll then have to change travel plans at the last minute. With this in mind, you can at least expect the unexpected without getting uncool.
cheers
