G'day, just want to know if i can obtain a Vietnamese visa at the Phonsavan Province/Vietnamese border or is it best to obtain from Luang Prabang/Vientiane.
Is this border xing a safe way to enter Vietnam on the way to Hanoi. Have read conflicting reports on other web sites.
Another option i am considering is crossing over into Vietnam from Hua Phan Province. The same questions above apply to this border xing.
Has anyone passed through either of these xings lately?
As far as we're aware, there are no Vietnamese visas granted on entry at a land border. I'd suggest Vientiane as the best option to get your visa beforehand.

somtam2000, thanx for the tip on purchasing visa prior to arrival at xings.
Any idea on the road conditions leading to the above posts. Have been told it's better to fly than attempt to go overland as the roads cause the trip to be long and extremely rough/dangerous.
I wouldn't have thought the routes to be dangerous, though as I haven't done them myself, I'm not speaking from first hand experience. Take a look at the visa and border crossing summary on the Travelfish blog - V is for Visas -- it may be of some help.
