Hi I have been trying to book the gibbon experience and have sent several emails but no reply.
Is the only way to do it by calling them?

No-one other than the GE people will be able to explain why they are not answering. I'm assuming you are emailing to:
experience@gibbonx.org
It is currently the height of the wet season at the moment. It is possible that they have other things on their mind.
When were you planning on undertaking the experience?

we want to book for january. And yes that is the email i have been sending to. I need to book for 6 people so I wanted to do it early so I know we can get in.

Given that January is so far away (timewise) for SE Asia, I'd be starting to get concerned if I haven't had a reply by end August. But, do repeat your email once each week.
If you really feel compelled, call them at about 8:30am local time.

I booked for the GE in November last week. They have confirmed, but you just have to be patient. I had an email from them 21/8. It sounds great.
