The upgrade of Pakxe airport in Champassak province will not be finished as scheduled next month, with the completion date postponed until January.
The airport will remain closed until then.
Director of the Pakxe Airport Improvement Project, Mr Anousack Kittilath, yesterday said the delay was due to the rainy season, a hold-up in the import of materials and equipment, and the relocation of families living in the area.
Mr Anousack said the runway extension and other improvements will continue after the rainy season ends and are expected to be complete early next year.

People wishing to fly to Pakxe can re-route through Savannakhet province. They can then continue overland using public transport or tour services to reach Pakxe.
There are also direct buses from Vientiane to Pakxe.
